Crime Stoppers.

The Australian Government introduced an amnesty for people to hand in unused, unwanted and/or illegal firearms. The campaign leading up to this amnesty involved a series of images of various firearms seemingly disintegrating into thin air.

Melbourne agency The Shannon Company brought the project to CADRE PICTURES to realise their idea in two commercials.

Firearm Development.

We were supplied a library of photos of seized firearms from which ten were selected to cover two ads.

We modeled each firearm from these photos and referenced the detail to replicate the wear that each item has accumulated over time, along with any modifications that the owner may have bestowed upon each weapon.

FX Development.

From the start, the brief on the look of the disintegrating particles was to keep them small and light. We went through significant development to come up with a base particle look, but found that for a number of firearms, slight adjustments of the particle size was necessary. It was also important to maintain the colour in the particles for the section of the gun that was disintegrating.

This clip shows the progress of the FX particle disintegration development on one particular firearm with the final FX outcome at the end of the clip:
